Message As i recall, aluminum and steel expand and contract at different rates. I am guessing but following your story if the leak is between the fitting and the rail then the rail must be expanding faster than the fitting which I think would imply that that the fitting is steel, not aluminum.

I am guessing here - is there a mechanical engineer in the house?
